Philanthropy & Activism



Spring 2011

  • Helped organize philanthropy event towards Chelsea’s Light Foundation which helped promote child protection.
  • Organized a Benefit show at SDSU with Nikkei Student Union for the relief efforts in Japan due to the natural disaster that occurred this past March

Fall 2010

  • Incepted/organized show “The Asian & Pacific Islander Community Presents…  The Welcome Back Show” featuring collaborative performances from members of different student orgs (AB Samahan, APSA, Alpha Phi Gamma, Sigma Phi Omega, Delta Sigma Psi and Chi Rho Omicron) at beginning of the year to foster sense of community.  Raised donations for API Fest planned for spring.
  • Raised over $1,100 for Step Out: Fight Against Diabetes. With APIADS, surpassed our $1,000 goal and informed the San Diego Community of this growing disease.

Spring 2010

  • Helped organize Shirt The Kids San Diego with PNOY Apparel at the Mira Mesa Epicentre featuring Kiwi, Rocky Rivera and Zion I.
  • Support the San Diego Asian Youth Organization at the Dragon Boat Festival.

Fall 2009

  • Formed Asian Pacific Islanders Against Diabetes to unify Asian & Pacific Islanders at SDSU.  Raised $800 to fight against diabetes and march in Diabetes Walk.
  • Co-organized a benefit concert at SDSU for typhoon relief with AB Samahan, Intervarsity & APSA.  Got 24 acts, packed the Backdoor and raised over $650.
  • Made signs, marched & protested in LA for the WWII Veteranos (JFAV) on Veterans Day along with many other Southern California collegiate organizations.  “San Diego Students For The JFAV Movement” – coined by #111.
  • Volunteered at the Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture in San Pedro.
  • Coordinated and volunteered at San Diego FilAm Fest & supported KAMP in collecting donations for typhoon relief.

Summer 2009

  • Participated in vigil hosted by SDAFF and other organizations for American journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling held captive in North Korea (eventually released).
  • “Sammy Sports Weekend” – Support Alpha Psi Rho at CSUN and PNOY Apparel in raising money and promoting Shirt The Kids at the annual Northridge Invitational Tournament.

Fall 2008

  • “A Sammy Thing” Benefit Showcase for PNOY Apparel’s Shirt The Kids Campaign, raised $9,000 for impoverished children in the Philippines.  Brought Supreme Soul, Bambu, Kiwi, Geologic (Blue Scholars), Dj Phatrick, Ashley Robles, Hi-Fi, iDk, AngieGirl and more to San Diego State University.
  • Walked in the Justice for Filipino American Veterans March in LA’s Historic Filipinotown (legislation eventually passed).

Summer 2008

  • Made signs and marched for Justice for Filipino American Veterans in Mira Mesa at the Philippine Independence Day Parade/Festival.
