GAME 1!!

February 15th, 2013 | by cake

On behalf of the SDSU APsiRho basketball team, I’d like to welcome you to Spring 2k13 basketball season!!

On Wednesday, Febuary 13th, 2013, we played our first game of the season with a new face of individuals on the team. Today’s players included Terri Plaza, Joseph Mark Bautista, Boris Hope, Jacky Chu, Adrian Villamil, and Jonathan Lowe. Due to a few administration difficulties with the Aztec Recreation Center, the Rho Doggs played with only 6 players for a 40 miute game! And only having one substitute for a whole game is no easy feat.

The opponents were the most team spirited, Sigma Phi Epsilon. Seriously, this team seems to bring a crowd of about 75 people to each game.

The game started off strong as the new team led a small lead at the start of the game. Things were looking up as the Rho Doggs carried the lead till the end of the half! However, SigEp came out strong at half time and took the lead a few minutes into the 2nd half. Up by 10, the game looked to be over, but, the Rho Doggs closed the gap to a 4 point deficit with 6 minutes to play making it 32-36. Yet, SigEp was not ready to give up there lead and won the game at the end.

Coach Rich Vitalich states that “we did some things right, but we have a lot we need to work on.” PG Terri Plaza replied by saying, “That’s why practice is so important.” Hopefully, the Rho Doggs will go back to the drawing and come back out harder than before.

Our Sideline Support featured a few familiar faces, Jerome Pusung and RJ Miyamoto. Being two formers players on the team, they had some words of encouragement to share with the team:

“This is the best team we’ve had in years.” – Miyamoto

“This is a lethal team. I know you guys are in the moment now, but you have to take a step back to see it.” – Pusung

With this and the game in the back of their minds, I predict great things coming from this new squad of players.
